INFECTIOUS PERIOD |
Anyone with the flu should be considered infectious for as long as they have any of the symptoms noted above.
Therefore, if someone in your family becomes ill, do the following:
|
CARING FOR THOSE ILL |
• Keep the person who is ill away from other family members in a separate room with the door closed. (Do your best with little ones who are afraid to be alone.)
• Remind those ill to cover their mouth when sneezing or coughing and to wash hands frequently!
• All members of the household should wash their hands frequently.
• Except for medical care, sick persons should remain at home, not in public.
• If they must leave the house, mouth and nose should be covered/surgical mask on.
• A surgical mask should be worn when they are around others in the home.
• Each person should have their own separate towels.
• Those that are ill should use a separate bathroom if possible. Clean this area daily with household disinfectants.
• Discourage visitors, use the phone instead.
• Pregnant women should avoid all contact with those ill.
• Those at increased risk should likewise avoid those ill.
|
CAREGIVERS: |
• Avoid face to face contact
• When holding a child place their chin on your shoulder so they will not cough in your face
• Wash hands!
• Wear a mask outside of the home to avoid spreading flu as you may be infected and not know it
• Throw all tissues/disposables of the sick person in the trash and keep surfaces clean
• Wash items in hot water
|
Remember the basics. Know this is not a more dangerous a flu than ones in past years. With mindful prevention and treatment we can all help each other through this experience.
